The issue is, it is a big deal. If Dohu had casually mentioned it before then it wouldn't have been. But because he found out in such way, it's normal for him to question his reality. What was real and what was done in the name of research
I wish he wouldn't make a big deal of being "used" as reference for the novel but the story was too peaceful and author probably needed it to shake up the plot
