according to the spoilers in the comments: ML is the knight and he was an adult in love with 13 year old MC but acted cold because he wanted MC to ask for help and depend on him. Now that they met again, nothing is resolved they just get together and ML didn't even have that much of a reaction when he heard MC say that he was killed by someone he assumed to be ML at the time.
So, the age thing is off (since MC was 13 at the time) and also it's frustrating how they act like nothing ever happened and get together in an anticlimactic way.
Take all of the above with a grain of salt because I didn't read the novel myself, I'm just reporting the spoilers in the comments
