This is a bit of a case study in what makes a female lead

Okay so let me preface that I am the first to over analyze trash so don't use me as your metric to read something ever. My taste in media is too self indulgent for that

I think something that makes our female lead work so well is that she's so pitiful. You look at this young woman with the sh*ttiest set of life circumstances and then the sh*ttiest luck and it's like "wow, that SUCKS".

But it's what she does about it that really matters because it's actually very enjoyable watching her surviving this situation and being weak to any sort of implication that she's loved or lovable. I love her for it, even handed the most rancid plate of lemons she's doing her beat to survive it and it's really humerous seeing her play the straight (albeit terrified) man to the other's very silly personalities. I mean, ok not silly really but their personalities are very exaggerated. It's all very fun to read

I guess what I'm a little interested in is how I enjoy this a lot more than the more serious versions of this same trope and I think it's truly because this manga doesn't take itself so seriously that it won't joke around. It's not some kind of straightforward romance, mind you there's nothing wrong with standard rom coms I just want to say this is a far cry from one of those and I enjoy it more for it
