I ended up reading the web novel on Syosetu.
The series is very sweet...but also slowburn hurt comfort. Got some tears stuck in my eyes or something since it's not like other typical BL isekai. It focuses more on Albert/Ray coping with the aftermath and learning to be with each other. (But what made me cry the most was the fact that the webnovel is incomplete and has been since 2021 ╥﹏╥) lll however I'm still glad I read it.)

He had a traumatic past where the demons killed off all his family, so he's standoffish with everyone (not just Rei) because he just wants to focus on humanity's liberation and revenge...granted this part of the comic didn't happen in the novel, the artist is just liberally adding in such details. But the story basically starts after they already defeated the demon king and he's more chill. It's a very odd format because they skip the whole subjugation thing and jump straight into an epilogue-like story. Tldr is he thought Rei was too softhearted for the journey but seeing him persevere and going from a crybaby to a capable person who closed off his emotions made Albert change his mind. He started wanting to see the Magician smile. Especially since after the battle, and losing an arm, the kingdom didn't have any way to send him home. Rei ends up building a tower in the middle of nowhere, to close himself off from the world, and Albert decides to climb that tower and move in with him. So, the story really starts there with them being roomies and learning to cope with their traumas. Albert with his past, and Rei with his post-war ptsd.

Unfortunately yes... but it's not a depressive story by any means. They had one of the most beautiful confession scenes. Actually, twice. Rei's confession scene was beautiful, and so was Albert's.
