Leyla, because she likes him, plays the role of a subordinate and commoner to do what he wants and please him until she gets tired of it all. BUT SHE LIKES HIM FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, THAT’S WHY IN THE END SHE DECIDES TO ADMIT IT AND TELLS HIM STRAIGHT UP, BECAUSE MATTIAS IS ON THE BRINK OF DEATH, AKA ABOUT TO LEAVE HER FOR REAL.

HE WANTS A SIMPLE, INSIGNIFICANT WOMAN, BUT HE HAS TO FULFILL THE ROLE HE WAS BORN INTO: A HOT, DESIRABLE NOBLE THAT EVERYONE WANTS. BORED, INDIFFERENT. JUST PAY ATTENTION TO THE MONOLOGUE HE HAS RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING, A LITTLE BEFORE THE BICYCLE SCENE. IT’S A WORLD WHERE NOBLES HAD TO BE NOBLES AND MARRY FOR BUSINESS, WITH NO FREEDOM TO CHOOSE WHO THEY TRULY WANTED.

What fucks everything up, is that Mattias “rebels” against his miserable life, in a completely WRONG way, the guy is on the verge of madness you know, he wants what he wants when he wants it. Then, when he's rejected, he goes crazy. And Layla... she knows... dude...
Mattias and Leyla use each other's weakness to manipulate each other. At first she's the only one suffering from Mattias' madness, but then the woman rebels in her own way.
BTW, this story reminded me of Pride and Prejudice, only WAY WORSE and heavier. I’m talking about the context—the whole noble vs. commoner thing. Mattias has a bit of Mr. Darcy in him, not understanding why he’s in love with a nobody. But, well... Mr. Darcy is an adult, and despite being a spoiled rich jerk, he admitted his feelings for Elizabeth in a morally upright way...
I read the novel up to chapter 96, and dude... EVERYONE IN THIS FREAKING STORY IS MENTALLY UNSTABLE. Leyla has the whole abandonment by her mother and a messed-up childhood, Mattias is pretty much the same, Kyle is a total pushover.
It even gets to a point where Leyla, fully aware that Mattias is crazy about her, manipulates him too just to mess with his head.
In the table scene of plaftpluft (you know the one), Leyla didn’t want it at first, but after that, they had some intense sex where she was all in for it.
SHE WANTS SOMEONE DEVOTED TO HER, CRAZY ABOUT HER, AND WHO WILL NEVER ABANDON HER, AND SHE’S FULLY AWARE THAT MATTIAS IS THAT GUY.(Remembering that Kyle abandoned her back at the party...)
Like... this bitch was into the badguy from the start. They like each other but are too mentally messed up to admit it. Leyla’s even worse—playing hard to get when she clearly wants to be number one for the guy. Just admit it already and go for it, you know?
if they end up together, that's it, they deserve each other, and it only confirms what I've just said.
But honestly, I loved it. I’m a sucker for drama.
