Can some1 explain to me why they separated in d 1st place? I didn't complete season 1

If I remember correctly... MC found out that ML was isolating him from his surroundings (his friends and his college dream). ML pulled some strings to get MC rejected from his college choice. MC found out and got mad and realized that ML was obsessive and manipulating. ML was begging for MC to stay with him (to the point where he threatened to harm himself) but MC was like "go ahead" and left his ass. And that was the end of season one.
