I've always thought about it, but...

Havel is one of the most pitiful character here. Caitel isn't a good person. As a reader, I guess I didn't want Caitel to die or be punished, but he did deserved to be punished, heck I even want him to be happy with Ria, still... He had a bad life, I get that, but the number of people who suffered and died unfairly because of him is far too much to count.
The number of children and concubines he killed, the countries he made suffer, the fact that he was about to kill an infant Ria too nothing can justify his actions.

Havel had the right to be angry, to be vengeful. He never wanted the crown, he never asked for the responsibility, he wanted a peaceful life, but he couldn't because he had millions of subjects leaning on him. Still, the story disregarded everything Caitel did to Havel, and even ria made it seem like it was wrong for Havel to seek revenge on the man who ruined his life, ravaged his country and killed his family. The story even made him impossible to be ml, because of how complicated it would all become. So basically he lost his freedom, his right to love the Ria, he lost his country, he lost his family, he lost his own self all because of Caitel.

He liked Ria, but he was wrong for assisting Ria's abduction though. The rest of his actions are reasonable.
