if you're smart enough to understand expression in people's passages then you won't take every words and translate them each literally :)
look i think lister deep down is fond over sylhan but he's just your ordinary tsundere who can't just be honest to his feeling and keep denial because of his ego. he might like sylhan even before the latter fell from grace, and it makes them having barrier to ever become casual like when they were children. i might think he would be potential love rival if only he's not violent and acting very rude towards sylhan
