Typed too fast. I did not obtain a Master degree by not reading my sources so do not come for me with some sort of gotcha. This article is a short introduction to the matter. It does not go deep enough on the relationship between Natives and Nature, how they lived in harmony with their ancestral land before white colonizers went and tried to destroy everything that made them. It does not explain that Natives are not one singular community but many different ones that have different relationships with Nature. The question of the "spirit animal" can be talked about at lenght but this article summarize the problem enough
