I totally agree the dad is a huge asshole to his kids but at the same time it kinda makes sense? I've read a lot of other stories and I read this a long time ago so I might get details wrong but from what I remember the orcas in direct descendants do things extremely different, they separate the kids from the parents and let maids and servants do the parenting until they know the kids are useful which gives the kids a chance to be seen by the grandma plus even then I doubt there'd be much communication. It's like the use for kids isn't to build loving families but to instead make the main family stronger, after all there's a 50/50 chance the kids will grow up with power which means more power for the family. Not to mention FL (I THINK NOT SURE) said orcas made families through bonds and not blood so it kinda makes sense the dad is closer to the daughter that he's actually spent time with instead of the other 3 sons he's been avoiding. In a more simple explanation to my theory the orcas direct descendants live in the same land/household, dad swims there freely as a 'member' of the household instead as the grandma's son, same goes for the grandchildren. They live there as members and not family so it would be rare for them to bump into each other unless they sought out one another, but because FL is actively training with dad and dad is actively hanging out with daughter they've seen each other as family instead of members in the same household. Plus grandma probably had the same cold heart towards his son's so it's more of a learned way of handling children than anything ( ̄∇ ̄")
