Fr. Unpopular opinion I guess, but I actually find it more inclusive. I don't think wife/mother needs to be strictly gendered. It's about the role first and foremost. Omegas are considered mother's no matter the gender and alphas are fathers no matter the gender. This is the omegaverse for God's sake, in a world where gender blurs lines ofc you are going to have different language norms. The whole reason language exists in the first place is for communication, and with communication, concepts that are easier to understood will always work better. In the case of the omegaverse, applying it this way is much better application of language.
In any case, men give birth in this universe, if calling them a mother is where you draw the line then maybe your priorities are a little skewed? Why are you even reading an omegaverse in the first place?
this reply basically sums up my perspective

It's like shitting on trans men who choose to give birth. The way I see it, it's another property of the fetishisation of gay men. They give the man on the receiving end or with the more 'feminine role' these titles to feed/indulge the fantasies of women who use media like this as self-inserts. Truthfully though, I find it cute sometimes, but like only when it's little babies.
I see some non-omegaverse BLs where the baby is adopted or not biologically related and they call one of the dads or guardians 'mommy' or 'mama' cause they don't know any better lol. It becomes weird for me when grown teenagers call their dad Mom, though. Like with Byul rn, first few chapters baby Byul was fresh in my mind cause I'd been reading the OG for like 4 years alr, I was so used to him being a baby so I didn't really find it odd. BUT THE 'AUNTIE'... Thats when it got weird, like you don't need that bro Now Byul does not stick in my mind as a little baby anymore and him calling Hyesung Mom sounds weird, period.
exactly. I'm a gay dude and tbh i have nothing against the abo genre cuz I indulge in it too. but the "mom" thing always throws me off. It is by definition and societal view, a very much female-gendered term. Its usage in BL abo is bascially implying the erasing of the gender of the person who had birth, ONLY JUST BECAUSE they are able to have birth. "able to give birth = woman, so must be mom"
like No, he's a gay guy, who identifies as male but is simply able to have a child. he's a dad.
It's literally nothing of the sort. But at this point, I really don't think Omegaverse if for people like you in all honestly. At the end of the day, it's up to the author to decide how the characters identify - once again. - this is a work of fiction. Just like it's up to thr author to decide how they choose to interpret the Omegaverse world they create.
As for the term mother, it's always been more than just a gender role. It's literally a term that denotes the creation of life or a caretaker. Just like in the phrases "mother nature" or "mother earth". Does the earth or nature have a gender? No. But it's still used that way.
As for trans people, they are not a monolith and I am sure there are some who would agree with you and some who would not. At the end of the day, that's all your opinion and nothing about it is rooted in facts. Honesty, literally nothing about your argument makes sense. It's literally so far from reality that it leaves me wondering, but I'm unwilling to keep talking to brick walls. If you choose to take person offense to this, that is all on you.
The only ones making it about fetishism and weird is you guys. But I've already seen that a lot of you're points just aren't rooted in logic, so it's to be expected.
Like genuinely. I'm so boggled. Like how tf are you mad that a fictional character doesn't identify the way YOU want. People on the internet cannot be real sometimes I swear tg. If a man tomorrow work up and said that he adopted a kid and he felt like he wanted the kid to call him mom because he felt like he identified more that way are y'all bout to argue him down too? Like, whats the point of saying people can identify how they choose, but then be like "but no, not like that. Only my way". bsffr
Nah allgg, I take no offense, I used to have the same opinion after all (and I still find calling Byul 'Mommy's little boy' cute since 4 years of finding it cute does not just go away lol), and I'm still a hardcore ongoing consumer of omegaverse (veteran fr)
I acknowledge your point about the term 'Mother' being more than a gender role, but strictly speaking, I don't think manhwa creators are really looking that deep into it I would still argue that Fargo is simply catering to the interests of some female readers (as Yaoi and erotic BL (read: erotic, not shounen ai) were first created to satisfy the fetishes of women (majority) – though they are getting better !!) and I’ve had this kind of feeling since I first noticed that the main couple from Fargo’s first manhwa (If You Hate Me So), from which Dojin and Hyesung are derived from, made a little appearance in the start of Love Is An Illusion, showing the one on the receiving end as pregnant.
It kind of iffed me because they were characters from a manhwa which was placed in a real world setting, and by portraying them this way, that one stereotypical idea that the man on the receiving end is the ‘female’ (it’s a very common phrase which is entirely wrong – I’ve even seen some people ask gay couples who is “the female” in the relationship…) was presented. And there was a pattern, because all the men in Fargo’s real-world setting manhwa who were on the receiving end were portrayed as omegas in Love Is An Illusion, not just including Hyesung. If these characters had not been a part of that real-world setting manhwa, I don’t think I would have found it so weird. But because they were, it gave me an inkling of what Fargo thinks about the dynamics of gay couples, or perhaps more-so their opinion on the gender identities of those who give birth. So I’d say it’s not SO far-fetched or illogical to consider that they are merely using these titles to attract women who like to self-insert. Though I still see both sides of the argument!! We did after all get Dojun & Heesoo and the sister’s side story (I’ve forgotten their names lol) – Fargo be making and breaking stereotypes with the sister’s story lol.
And yes I also see what you mean about trans men - of course there will be some trans men who give birth to their own kids that will be okay with being called "Mom" and such, and there will be others that will adamantly refuse to be called that way. Though, that is not to say that those who refuse to be called that way should not seek some form of representation in media, and especially in media that they like!!
Sure, the male characters who give birth in this story are fine with being called Mom, and in real life if a male-identifying person was fine with being called, or even wanted to be called Mom by their kids, we'd have no arguments!!! That's a real person's desire and we have no right whatsoever to interfere with or express distaste towards that - we love that for them. There's plenty of representation of that actually, where single parents say that they are or their kids say themselves that their single parent is both their Mom and their Dad; giving them presents on both Mother's Day and Father's Day <3
We know the concept of gender in omegaverse is difficult to comprehend as they literally have 3 subsets of them which are innately feminine or masculine (or neither for Beta lol) which who knows how affects their identities, but naturally, we as readers crave stories that have a mix of all the stuff we look for, and we get frustrated when we just can't find the flavour we've been scavenging for, as I'm sure you've probably experienced before.
[Basically TLDR(?)] We haven’t found that flavour here, and we COULD click off, but gurl you know we’re absolutely eating ts up It’s a rare once in a millennium Alpha x Alpha shounen ai and you KNOW I aint gonna let a little irrelevant thing as Hyesung being called Mom and Auntie (I do find it weird, but it’s not like I can’t handle it, I loved it for like 4 years lol) twice every few chapters stop me from seeing these two cute little goobers have their silly little high school romance!!! q(≧▽≦q)
That’s what we’re really here for, after all
Damn, sorry for the essay
he really is such a hilarious mix of the two of them lmao. and all y'all mad about male omegas being called mom need to either get out or read more ABO. it happens quite frequently
