Isn't the concept of shikis just a repackaged yaoi

version of rasetsu in hakuouki? They're both undead but the way they're resurrected is different, one a mindless zombie while the other a vampire with blinding bloodlust.

might as well say that this is just a historical yaoi version of the shiki anime at that point

Was really about to compare it with shiki but aren't the monsters in that anime more like rasetsus? They're blood thirsty compared to the shikis in this story. They're just soulless.

Rasetsu are vampires and shiki are more akin to zombies and undead dolls.

Oh i see, it's been a long time since I've watched shiki. All I remember is the pink haired gal with a bloody mouth, so I kept associating the anime with vamps.

Naw those shiki are different from the ones I'm referring to lol

Tho, tbh, each culture has their own version of them. Hakuoki is set in historical Japan, probably before records or pop culture media came up with the term "vampires." Tho, rasetsu differ by having short lifespans from normal vampires.

Depending on where and when this manga series is set, it's probably something closer to the Chinese jiangshi, often referred to as a "hopping vampire" or simply a reanimated corpse. The only thing that seems different is that these shiki don't seem to crave blood.

But like I said, there's no definitive definition for them. Also, the Shiki anime is based off a series of novels written in the late 1990s. The ones in that series are also more akin to vampires suffering blood craze than the ones we see here-- for now lol

Ohhhh lmao honestly my knowledge only knows about anime references when it comes to shiki. I've heard of hopping vamps from a Chinese movie. I used to think they were zombies. Anw, thanks for giving some fun facts about shikis.
