I like them suffering from the consequences of their own action? Imagine the MC being inlove with the ML, but the ML is unable to comprehend that he's in love with the MC until a SML comes swooping in and the ML suddenly felt like the MC is getting stolen away by the SML. That's the general gist of it
Even better is if the ML actually did some stupid ass shit that the MC can't forgive him for(lmao the chasing arc basically), or in desperation, the MC gets into a relationship with the SML to try to forget the ML. And the ML gets supper pissed off.
