Because religion, for all its promised goodness, is rife for taking advantage of the lesser fortunate. Like it or not. Any religion that is popular today has very dark history under its belt. SA, terrorism, financial fraud, etc. It's so easy for the ones in authority to take advantage of those they consider their responsibility. It's a shame that a lot of the elders in these religions don't practice what they preach. Some also take the teachings too far.
