I think it's because from his perspective, he thought he was being forced to keep dreaming that loop cuz he couldn't let go.
Remember, he thought the mc was avoiding him aka prolly even hated him? That's my hypothesis
Okay so basically the reason he is looping is because of the black hair guy due to him always rejecting him since the universe saw it as the wrong answer, once his dreams started coming together he became conscious of the fact that all those confessions in the dreams were real and that is why he is not regressing anymore
