Thank God I'm not alone on this omg! Even with the tiny bits of information given, I was like, "Isn't it obvious the husband loved his wife and went mad after her death?" Not to mention, the MC already stated the potential reasons she could have died. If she was depressed, she could have killed herself; from the maid's behavior, it seems she wasn't eating, so she could have starved to death, etc. The husband's behavior toward the saintess could be explained by desperation. I imagine the husband tried to use the saintess's powers to bring his dead wife back to life but was eventually killed due to his problematic actions, and his last words were clearly his last wishes towards his wife.
