well... i feel bad saying i'm desensitized to anything regarding consent in bl but there actually is a huge chunk of people who do like dubious consent and hardcore smut so you wouldn't be so far off in your comment about catering to the readers' tastes (the amount of times people ask for rape in the comments of newtoki is wild). ofc people are free to like and dislike what they want, but you have to remember that these manhwa are meant for adults and adult spaces. authors release these scenes with the assumption that only adults are consuming their content who have the ability to draw a very thick line between fiction and reality, so i think it's a bit unfair to say that people have questionable morals if they do like the depiction of dubcon. but i do agree that the normalization and romanticization of it is an issue. like at least have a trigger warning for those who don't like it??
These days there is nothing more predictable in Korean yaois than an author taking a story that starts off sweet and turning it into a rape or non-consent fest. Either almost every seme in the country is too stupid or evil understand that "no", "please stop" and "it hurts" are not the words of someone who is enjoying the sex. Or the writers and publishers think that that behavior is acceptable/normal and wait readers want.
Either way, it's a shame that this keeps happening. Miserable painful sex, is not something that should be normalized in fiction or irl. But I can understand it in stories about pschyo characters or torture porn. But when you have chibis and romance one second and violent pounding while the other guy thinks he's going to die in the next, it's clearly wrong. Anyone defending it shows that their views of "normal sexual relationships" are also questionable. Hardcore and raunchy sex can be a nice experience for both people, that's not what many authors of kyaois are writing these days and that's so sad.
