Do not expect your usually happy ending because this story does not have that.
The ML will come to the temple and take back Angie to her castle, and she will be scared out of her wits. He barely visits her because of this fear, and because he wants her to love him, so he gives her space. However, he also puts his conquest on hold and this angers some of the war loyalists, who then plot to kill Angie. They decide to poison her. She leaves her palace to go to the ML to ask him to free her maids that helped in her escape, because there is no one she trusts now, but she faints after that.
She recuperates in the ML’s secret bedroom and she decides to revert to her loving personality for the ML because it’s the only way to survive and get what she wants. The ML kills the duchess and poses her as the empress, and says the empress is dead. The people don’t believe him and he doesn’t really care, because it’s just a sign for them not to mess with Angie and he did a bad job with the disguise anyways. The ML becomes paranoid and refuses to allow anyone to meet her after her poisoning. Angie greeting him warmly makes the ML happy and is also psycho, so he thinks if he locks her up in his room, she’ll love him truly. So, he does just that, and would constantly leave her in the room alone to come back to her lovingly greeting him and also threaten her that he’ll abandon her there, so she basically becomes broken. She realizes that he doesn’t care if she’s broken, as long as she is his. It gets to the point where she doesn’t even wear clothes in the room because she never leaves. It’s truly sad.
Eventually, Eden and co. rescue her and Angie feels so free and is happy to be out. She decides to kill the ML, as it’s her responsibility and to protect others. She doesn’t truly want to kill him, but she has to. Angie is actually the Saintess, and so she is the one who needs to kill him. Seraphina is a fake saintess and she acc knows everything, because she reversed the 1st timeline after killing the ML because of all the destruction. She was forsaken for this by her god and it caused the OG Eden’s soul to disappear as the price of her time reversal. That is why Cha Soohyun was pulled in to replace him, and Angie was pulled in to become the new Saintess after Seraphina was forsaken.
The ML’s death is plotted by the Gods actually because they want to rid the world of the God of War and because if not, the world will be destroyed. So, if the ML is killed and his country is destroyed, then his followers will decrease because gods can’t actually die, and he will be weakened.
The ML does actually love Angie, not just because she’s a saintess. In the OG timeline, the god of Mercy basically forced his obsession because he has no interest in Seraphina when initially meeting her. This time, he actually is in love with Angie. When the God of War tries to tempt him to kill her and he refuses, it actually causes him immense pain, but he suffers through it because of his love and need for her.
After Angie kills the ML, she and Eden are able to return to their own world and have also become immortal in the novel world. This is a punishment for them, but they will return to their normal lifespan if they return to their world.
Angie is still in love with the ML and feels guilt towards him, and prays to the God to revive him. She falls into a deep slumber and wakes up hundreds of years later (500 years). Angie has the choice to return to her world, but she refuses to. She wishes for the ML to be revived, and to also be able to put him under the same treatment he gave her. The ML has been revived, but as like a zombie under Angie’s complete control(physically). It’s kinda like the god’s twisted way, as they didn’t execute her wish as she actually wanted it. He still retains his OG body with his head fixed, but he doesn’t have a heartbeat, hunger, or taste, so he basically becomes immortal like Angie. His country has fallen and so now they are going to live together, and see if they can truly “love” each other without everything else in the way.
Eden returns to earth before Angie woke up from her slumber (170 years later because he helps Richard prepare to rule). Their bodies were in comas, as they were in the novel world. He checks on Angie’s OG body once in a while, and when she decides to stay in the novel world, her OG body dies and Eden learned she decided not to return. He didn’t like her romantically, just felt lost when she died.
There is a side story that basically is a “what if” Angie decided to return to their world with Eden.
It’s a tragic happy open ending, but I actually like it because they go through real emotions and the ML actually suffers consequences for his actions.
