Rape & abuse comes hand in hand with BL as a genre, even if there a lot of consensual and cute manga, they're rare enough to baffle the audience when the couple is all cute with no fucked up dynamic. You can literally scroll trough the replies when the ML is an actual well adjusted healthy person and see how people are praising him like it's a rain that comes once every 3 years.

people love to overly exaggerate about the the whole "bl=abuse and rape" thing, they often have prejudice against the genre and act like bls with healthy dynamics are so scarce or have never been made before under any good bl they read, there's so much toxic het stuff out there but people don't treat them like they do with bl. i've also seen comments raining praise on a ml like that in like ten bls in one day before so it's really about knowing how to find what suits you and how much you've read.

I have never seen any kind of praise for straight romance in my life. Any kind of toxic het romance I see, it's either written by Colleen Hoover or has ''If I wanted a toxic straight romance I would watch my parents'' comment copy pasted in the comments.

The only praise for het romance I've seen is for queer kind of straight romance where they're actually well adjusted cunty bitch slayers who make the story better.

Yes there are a lot of non-toxic BL there but let's not pretend that consent in BL is a touchy subject since Junjou Romantica / Okane Ga Nai era of BL.

For a lot of new gen BL, the story accepts the rape as consensual because MC blushes once which is a quick save for authors. ''Look guys! it's not rape! he likes it and said it was okay!!''

That's why it warrants a comment about how amazing it is when the author accepts rape as rape and makes the ML regret his actions, even making them keep from attacking MC even when they're drugged. The author can use it as excuse to write another sex scene to hook ''those kinds of people'' but they don't do it, that's why it's surprizing.

i didn't say people praised het stories, ofc people criticize het stories too but the generalization is absolutely not as bad as it is with bl, is what i meant. one bad popular bl is enough for people to shit on the genre for years. and het, bl, gl all have all sorts of toxic stories as well as good ones but bl always gets shitted on the most bc well, folks are kinda homophobic.

and idk what bls you're reading but we clearly have different reading experiences. new gen bls I've seen have come a long way from the old ones. ofc praising a story for not sliding sa or abuse under the rug is good, i do that myself but my issue is when people demonize the whole bl genre as something disgusting and unacceptable because of the bad apples and act like bl=rape.
