In the novel they thought she killed "Leo" because she left behind a letter with her name on it. Oscar was the first to find out. Romeo and Griffith were next to find out after finding clues and putting pieces of information together. Kalix didn't know until after she was able to break the spell and tell them herself. But even when she told him he didn't believed her until he figured it out himself.
