ngl i did kinda laugh at first at the last panel. but then i forgot that both anya and bond have supernatural powers. even the ufo theory is not completely unplausible (read below), but even looking at damians older brother (the only person that anya fails to read their mind), it's a little obvious that the father dabbed into human experimentation, and probably used his own son for research (or maybe he has a mental disorder, which would limit anyas powers. she cant be overpowered if things are to get more serious)
we also have to remember that anya cannot read minds on one day of the lunar cycle (whether it was a full moon or no moon, i cant remember). this is why she was not able to cheat her way through the entrance exam, but thanks to loid and yor's charisma they got through it anyways lol.
i completely forgot about the supernatural side of the story, and thought of melindas interest in dark arts completely unrelated. but if anyas powers have to do with the lunar cycle out of all things then its not just human superpowers derived from experimentation, but also some sort of magic sourced from an otherworldly being (hence why in this world, ufos could very well be implemented somewhere. the ufos could be something that channels said magic from super distant planet to earth. a huge reach and i could be completely wrong about all of this, but if even loid delved into ufo research its worth considering)
i think anya was considered a failed experiment, a body who could not handle or control such powerful magic from literally, the universe, which is why she was put up for adoption.
i wonder what the human experimenters goals are, to create a special forces army to win the power struggle? or for societal/technological advancement with the help of super geniuses?
that also brings the question of what happens to the alumni, especially the stellar students of the school? we do see their portraits in the halls, but they never appear as characters again, even as business owners or anything. either they were recruited into secret forces or maybe the author just wants to keep things simple.
Xd I just love theories and at least when I posted this, people were only pointing out the more obvious aspects. I just wanted to share my perspective as well which i think resurfaces more forgotten aspects of the story ^^
