I've read the chapter 3 times already (however it is 3 in the morning) and I did not understand the chapter at all... What does he mean by expressions or feelings that they don't recognize might as well not exist at all??? Please explain if someone would be so kind. Thank you
Kind of like "seeing is believing", so if they can't see it or recognize it, then it might as well not exist. Another example: Earth's shape, for others they believe it's flat because they haven't personally seen the Earth to be round.
I think he meant his family basically treated him as inferior to his brother and he felt invisible in the house so he won't bother to even show any feelings for them at all bc why bother
