At the end of the novel, the emperor again tries exterminate commoners with no abilities and the mom joins in herself (and even volunteers her son to keep him around to make sure he's safe) on the plan to keep her family. Her husband propose that they run away but she declined. This made her husband disgusted with her, as their son doesn't want to partake in it and is being forced into it, so he takes both of the kids and runs away.
