I think it would be strange for him not to be depressed. He’s gone through so much within the span of his life, never truly being the one in control. The debt, his grandma dying, and everything in between would take a toll on anyone. He’s overworked, and as much as he needs rest, the guilt of not using every second of the day weighs on him. The puppy dying could’ve sent him over the edge, confirming the realization that death is inevitable. Just my take!
Dan has only ever had his grandmother since childhood, and she has been his only form of solace due to their hard life and the harassment he has faced bc of the perverted doctor and loan sharks. Now he's lost hope that his grandmother will live long, and he's full of anxiety. He's facing a world where he doesn't have his grandmother and all these little things are building up - how he pushed himself to work to forget the hardships, the inability to save the puppy, and how he is losing touch with reality (how tired he is/how much he's drinking). Fortunately, it's not mainly or mostly about JK, it's about his fears coming true. However JK was a stressor for Dan, especially because Dan feels indebted and guilty on top of everything else.

Am i the only one who think author forcing too much for Dan to be feeling depressed..bcs ok at first i saw sneak pic post of this chapter and thought is the grandma dead..but she didn't not so now make me rethinking if it is bcs of overthinking and anxiety lead him to be like this..Or is bcs he love jk so much to make him so overthinking about it
