I think it's just conditioned in us to feel on edge about it from all the media out there. The white Knight trope, the feeling they're only being nice to have sex with you. When really, he's being nice because he loves him. It's hard to know he has those feelings, does these things, but also doesn't push for sex or a relationship. It's jarring most likely because of tropes is my point ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
It's a real world problem too obviously, so when we see how it should be, it feels like a trick! Rest assured, he really does just love the mc and wants him to be happy. He has his own feelings too but doesn't force any of it on mc.
I hate that they gave Roan a “nice guy syndrome” feeling. He just always has that weird vibe where he comes off like that dude who is a nice guy and because they are so nice they eventually end up obsessively thinking that they are entitled to you and how dare you not be interested when they were so nice >.>. I’m pretty sure that’s not what the author was going for, with the comments I see from people who read the novel, but that’s the weird feeling he always gives me and it’s frustrating. I want to like him and for him to turn out to be genuinely nice but he just has a vibe that give me the ick
