I think her mom has a trauma with her own mom too. When I first read this, this remind me of nagisa from assassination classroom and his mom. i know the other one is fictional but hear me out. nagisa's mom also very strict and wanted nagisa to be successful but it turned out she projected herself into him and wanted nagisa to get whatever she didn't.
it feels like a very possible thing.
or it's a case of trophy kid. the mom saw her daughter as a project or achievement to do instead of a real person. for example when she took her pictures it's more of a symbol to prove that she's a good mother rather than for the sake of immortalizing a good moment naturally.
also this is probably what you call a narcissistic parents because she never realized her mistake and she in fact only focus on her wants
anyway both needed therapy so much but it's not a common thing especially in japan
