For Doc Dan to fall into a depressive state after everything is totally understandable; he's been suffering with only Grandma as a support system in life. During those hard times, it was only Grandma who's been a 'home' for him.
Notable to mention on how horsie's been treating him, there has to be repressed emotions adding onto his already built up ones. The last straw was during the sabotaged spray moment, where Kim Dan takes in the situation itself as his inability of competence - taking in horsie's words and reaction to further accentuate his self-doubt. As a result, he feels guilty because he perceives it to be his fault even knowing full well he DID check it beforehand.
For Kim Dan, he contemplates whether he's 'not good enough' and/or useful, because being able to do something of worth grants him a reflection of his value as a person. Bearing in mind, how horsie would devalue his worth from time to time.
Also, I like how it portrays one being in a depressive state. The struggle to function in everyday life, fatigue and exhaustion, the pessimism, the anxiety and overthinking, the numbness in emotions, coping mechanisms (alcohol to help him sleep, overworking for a sense of security and distraction). Despite these elements, I'd say it's not exaggerated just for readers to pin-point, "oh he's depressed". It makes us connect the dots - confirming our speculation in the extremity of Doc Dan's current state when he pulled out the Euihyun move (attempt to off-ed himself). That being said, given Kim Dan's circumstances, he is uncertain if he's able to face it and move on without Grandma in his life. Especially, when he's so down bottom in a slump. He's been living a shit hole of life for his Grandma's presence, so it is imaginable for him to want to 'go first' if Grandma's time is gonna end soon anyways. That way, he wouldn't be the one being left.
