it probably have something to do with improving the art. Mostly the first seasons are of trial stages for designing the characters.
Also idk if this is just me, but before i would see a small detail of line under Callen's eye (side view) probably to represent that he's of age but i don't see it with the serialized version and with recent chapters which made their face look younger. Anyway even if that's the case both are so fine (≧∀≦)
