He's not a introvert with no dating history and MC has been his only friend since he was a kid so make sense for him to be socially naive imo.
I mean people dating others when they don't like each is not uncommon, they're both single so he's just giving him a chance to test things out and also probably to explore his sexuality, isn't similar to blind dates anyway?
In colleges where I live there are not many out lgbt folks so it's not like there are many options therefore gay people just get together with the first other decent looking gay guy they meet.
