This is the first time that I didn't hate a harem plotline, what makes this one different? Is it the crazy people? It has to be all the crazy people!

It might also be the fact that they all are pretty unique and have character to them, although crazy, they have their powers and roles and are not 'just love interests'

He also doesn't sexualize them. He only cares about how strong they are. If he could use them by simply being friends he would. He tried with Haiyan, though it didn't work.

ikr, like he really did try to be friends with each one of them, but almost every single one of the girls took the initiative with him

exactly and it also helps that they don't have "same face syndrome" they're unique on the inside and out, and each one serves a different role and purpose
