well there are espers that basically have superpowers, but if they use too much of their superpower they can either hurt themselves or go insane(depends on which manwha ur reading) so to prevent that there are guides who can reduce the buildup of power in the esper through physical contact. each manwha has a different version of it but the main idea is usually the same
