The teacher feels guilty enough about the situation to go to a cocktail mixer to try and find another partner, which ends badly.
They both have trauma that they have to work through, and they both hold off on becoming official until after the alpha has graduated from high school. They start living together as a couple and finally sleep with one another when he goes to college.
In the interim, they spend time together in a more platonic way (like studying for exams) for the most part.
