Retire this trope

Teacher x Student where student is the aggressor so that makes the story okay is such a tired trope break it up already. It becomes so apparent writer has a kink for illegal age gap but wants to take away from the grooming allegations by making the younger person desirous of the relationship. It still doesn’t make the situation alright.

You have to remember that in Japan, the legal age was then 13 and now 16. It’s considered “normal” to them and nothing about this kind of work is considered “wrong” and or “illegal”.

and by now 16 I’m mean it was very recently they passed that law.

Dude come on. Anytime you have to pull up legal ages of consent (which are this low largely to protect younger kids having consensual sex) to justify showing an adult having a sexual relationship with a kid (which will eventually happen here) that’s fucked up. Legal relativity doesn’t even hold strong when coming into contact of the moral wrong of a teacher fucking a student. Surely you see reason.

Nah it’s more I’m im being logical here I know it’s wrong but Japanese people dont see it that. It’s how their society has been for many years. I’m just being logical. I know it’s morally wrong but that’s not how they see it.

Instead of thinking from our POV try thinking from the author born and raised in Japan.

I guess what I’m trying to say is.. we all have different societies and beliefs. You are being quick to judge and treat the author like a pedophile when in their society this is ok.

Assuming your from America we as the people will look at someone who’s.. let’s say, at the age of 30 dating someone who is 18 and go “Ew” and be quick to label the 30 year old as a pedophile because our society has taught us it’s wrong when in fact our laws say it’s perfectly legal.

Japans society and laws all say it’s ok—so it’s ok for someone like this author to write about it.

Well. I’m not for America. Neither did I call the author a pedophile, I said they had a kink for an illegal age gap (some people think that is hot without being pedophiles, no matter the mental gymnastics involved). I don’t see how it’s logical to claim that in a country where the age of consent is 16 and people get prosecuted for sex crimes if they do not have consensual relations and are 5 years within each other after the age of 13 shapes their world view when there isn’t concrete evidence academically speaking of the same. I also don’t see how it means they’ll be just as okay with teacher student relationships irl in general. I am honestly hoping you’re making these points in good faith. Because the generalisations you make about Japanese people are quite damning without really knowing no? Anyway it’s still fucking weird that people continue to write teacher x student fiction even beyond the question of morality and law. That kind of stuff comes with both power and experiential imbalance (which is part of what makes it taboo, and for many readers and writers, serves as the exciting part). I don’t see the benefit of defending this, but I guess to each their own. I just want the trope retired because it’s generally reprehensible.
