In a recent chapter it was mentioned that if they bond then they can see each others memories and feel the emotions felt there.
Wellp... According to some spoilers I've read the ML has lived through this timeline once before except that things got pretty traumatizing for the MC during the first time so... ML didn't bond with the MC bc he didn't want the MC to regain his memories from the previous time they lived through this timeline.
