It’s hasn’t been confirmed they’re alive yet, so there’s a chance they might have survived but so far, especially with the way the story’s going, they’re probably dead. I haven’t read far enough ahead in the novel so as of now, presumed dead unfortunately.
They're most likely, considering what happend at the end of season 1, hasn't been drawn yet but will be in chapter 45

Hi! I already read the novel so I'm confused
Did it explicitly say that the poet and old man died in the novel? I don't remember. I just assumed they safe and were not mentioned anymore. What chapter in novel did they die?
i also read the novel and i don’t remember them being brought up again. poet is brought up in passing when an zhe thinks about him and his works but him and mr.shaw don’t appear again after judgement day(and the evacuation to the main city)
they maybe didn’t make it considering how the climatic scene towards the end was very doomsday and not many survived especially in the northern base(where they’re currently located)—ch48. vol 2–but we’ll never really know cuz they don’t physically reappear in the storyline.
