this is so true too! if people could be transparent it would avoid these issues. readers need to stop recommending these types of stories to people who don’t want to see heavy content. because this is an illegal site, people need take their own precautions reading smut by looking up tags beforehand
it’s a double edged sword because while people can handle reading triggering stuff and criticize the writing, there are others that still continue to read it and get mad about the amount of sa OR make the story seem lighthearted when it’s not
Yes !! Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with commenting criticism since imo the comment section isn't reserved for ONLY positive feedback, but I agree if a story isn't someone's cup of tea they don't need to hate read and come back every week it's only hurting themselves lol.
But yeah, I feel like fans of stories with toxic themes feel a need to make it seem not problematic like "oh it isn't rape cause x y z" or "it's technically not incest cause" ... like come on. The author put those themes in on purpose. If you like the story just own it. I don't know if they try to erase downplay it cause they're embarrassed of liking it or what but I feel like it sets up a lot of people reading the comments cause then they don't expect it. It's also just weird, it's just fiction but it feels gross when people try justify problematic themes.. just call it what it is! you don't need to justify it to enjoy reading the story
EXACTLY, i agree with everything you’ve said omg!! it doesn’t bother me that people read problematic stuff or enjoy it but let’s call a spade a spade. those people blur the lines of rape/other shit and that’s what starts the problems. as soon as they accept it, just discuss the content alone… then so many arguments would be avoided !
it’s fucking annoying when people think you can’t have negative criticism about a story by taking it personal. saying a storyline or story in general is bad isn’t a personal attack if you enjoy it lmaoo, we all have different tastes or expectations and that’s okay??
and another thing people can’t conceptualize is that people can also read things because they’re curious about, even if they don’t personally like the storytelling (JINX). my problem with jinx isn’t even the rape itself, it’s that the mc fell in love over the stupidest, most impossible reasons lol
the author has a preference for this and hot take but that’s completely fine… almost all yaoi writers don’t address their problematic themes and instead romanticize them. id rather much someone address it than fluff up a horrible ml or gloss over his actions
i hated how the story was focused on dark and heavy shit! however i love how the mc’s are always strong willed and hopeful despite their upbringing and sad experiences. despite what they’ve gone through it’s satisfying to see them always be hopeless romantics who achieve their happy endings no matter what
