I was thrown off by that too like do footballers where them even when they aren’t playing

So I just looked it up because the really don't look comfortable but apparently if they fit right they can be more comfortable than both briefs and boxers! I guess because they are supportive? Like a well fitting bra. But they just seem really breezy over the bum region.
