1). The current Nux is not pretending. The first Nux never knew Owen, Owen was one-sidedly observing him. The only Nux who knew Owen and pretended to like him was the one who grew up in a lab under Owen's supervision.
2). When Asangards (Owen's race) travel through holes in space they sometimes attract versions of themselves from other space-times. (Like a powerful magnet) This can also be caused by periods of emotional instability. (Might be wrong about this but this is what I understood so far.)
3). I think Nux loves all of them to some extent. He loves the main Owen the most, but he cares about all of them.
4). So far he has only proposed to the main Owen.
2. Owen's Species experimented a lot with space-time to create advanced technologies (like fast space-travel and time-travel), but while doing so they became contaminated and now their others selves from other realities are drawn to this reality, and they become one person with several bodies and personalities. (Owen tells Nux his 5 selves are still quite moderate, there are people in his Species with up to 15 other selves)
I think this was also the reason for their low birth rate, because all their selves have to fall for the same partner or something like that.

I only read up to ch 30 but don’t have time to read, I’m catching up on other stuff—but I’m desperately curious.
