you know what makes him even more of an ass, it wasn’t "care". more like he's just very aware of their relationship, he knows he's been good to her before but now views it as foolish. he knows his wife loved him but he just doesn't care enough to protect their marriage
To be honest, that makes things worse rather than justify or explain his actions. As you said, he’s still horrible. I don’t see why anyone would be desperate for some reaction when they didn’t do anything to deserve it. He was also the reason she’s in debt. How does he expect her to rely on his irresponsible ass? And to add insult to injury, he blames her for not putting the effort to look nice while she works her ass off to repay the debt.
I think this is what I like about HaeSoo. She’s one of the few female MC that are composed and hard to get through. It took 20-ish chapters for her to START feeling flustered around TaeHa and it took so long until she finally let her emotions run wild. While it’s hurting her, it also shows strength and resolute. I love that very much for her.
