Gosh you have put it so extremely well, why season 3 feels so lackluster.
Perhaps if season 3 was a separate manhwa on its own it would've been great, but personally I just am completely unable to get into this season, it's so vastly different from the story i feel in love with, for all the reasons you mentioned and more, for me it felt like it was setting itself up for the other important characters (I forgot their names now aaa) like the lavender haired prince and the black haired half brother of wolfgang, only to delve into minor characters I could not personally care about
I've been interested about the duke and Wolfgang's half brother specially since they teased the hell out of them in season two but also since wolfgang just has a cool character design so my expectations for season 3 was off the charts when they teased it on twitter. Safe to say i was baited. They cute tho.
Also, i agree with you. This feels like a set up for a spin off series. At some point of the story, I feel like the author is just dangling Shin and Wolf in our faces just to keep the readers attention. Also, it is obvious that they are trying to make the new King as likeable as possible, which she is. But again, this feels like a set up. It's the same brand of cookies I've been eating but the flavor has changed typa shit
"The flavour has changed" yea you right, feels like nostalgia bait at this point.
Such a shame tho, coz I think any direction focusing on the already established characters, other than the current ones would've atleast worked
There's so many established interesting characters, whom we don't know much about,
To be elated at the prospect of a found family set up only for it to be filled with random commerce explanation and epsilon's friend's conflicts was such a let down.
I do find it weird that no one in the comment section of the manhwa share the same sentiments tho, do most people not feel any change at all?
Some people did notice the shift in focus but most of it is directed to hating Epsilon as a character rather than the plot itself so I've chosen not to engage in it that much. I've also seen countless comments regarding the subplots which they also found weird. However, not all seems to hate on her. There were a couple that thinks she's a good addition to the story and likes the third season.
But it does make me curious. What did this season add to the plot? Like I understand it but at the same time I don't. If it had ended on season 2, i doubt anything will change.
I agree, could've ended it on season 2 and the story wouldn't miss out on much.
I personally was excited for epsilon's character until all the excitement fizzled away, for this manhwa in particular, season 3 plot really didn't work to grasp my attention to her. Shame coz it's not the characters fault, its just the direction the author decided to go.
Atleast on mangago I feel everyone adores her i sadly don't have twitter anymore so idk general fan's opinions.
Man I always regret lost potential, and honestly season 3 had a lot of potential to continue and explore more interesting characters/dynamics etc etc.
this is just too different, too much focused on newer, random characters for me to get into
Wolfgang and shin to me see like a shell of their past selves too for some reason, they both felt like they had more charisma and personality in the first two seasons
King's Maker finished a long time ago but oh god was I disappointed with it's third season. Now, I've been saying my opinion and such regarding this matter but it truly did dawn on me, why did the third season not work out for me?
As someone who has bought the ones on tappytoon and as a personal fan of the series itself, it struck to me how the way of the story changed from the first season to it's last. The first story was amazing, the second one I am not much of a fan but it did deliver, but for some reason the third one doesn't just work out that well for me.
And I think it simply just goes down to the way it handles the characters and the story itself. The first one has an even paced out roster where we get to meet the character one by one and understand how they affect the story. The second does the same thing as well but the difference is the theme of the story which is strong on it's own but comparatively weaker than the ones before it. Now, the third one on the hand does have a new character, but the problem with it is that the characters are explained in ways that is not interesting. Because of the shock factor of the first and second season, the third season just feels like a side story which it probably is.
But I think what is suffers from the most is cohesion. The story feels all over the place. Similar to the first and second season, it's leading up to a moment. Finally finding peace and democracy ig is the main moment here but it just feels off. Not that democracy is bad, but the pacing towards it. What do you mean you made a literal King from magic? It just feels off. The puzzle pieces were there where Wolfgang lost his magic and so on and so forth but it just didn't deliver. At this point it just feels like an Au where Wolfgang and Shin had a child.
Now speaking of the child. Boy where do I even start. First of all, her relationship with Wolfgang and Shin. You cannot look me in the eye and say that is their child because it isn't. It wasn't Shin's DNA but it is connected to Wolfgang. Great, but what about found family? That's a trope the author can explore. Nope, it doesn't. In fact, they feel more like her guardian than her parents, specially Shin who feels just like here tutor. Not once did I feel the found family vibe. While I understand the main point of adding her into the story, it just feels short. She is an awesome character but what drags her down for is the story itself. I have already seen a great King lead and how he was made to be King, so now at this point, her story becomes uninteresting. But the main point could be that since Wolfgang was such a great King, his predecessors didn't have to struggle with the throne. But even then that just lowers her value even more. Everything was laid right in front of her and all she has to do was to improve her personal being and connection and that's interesting and all but it just come out as boring when you stack the ones that came before it.
Overall, it's mid at best. Obviously there are other issues like pacing and unnecessary side plots, but these are the ones that just feels the most obvious to me. It's cute that Shin and Wolfgang can finally rest and have their honeymoon times together, but it's unfortunate that their relationship wasn't expanded with the new king (God I can't remember any of their names). The last season feels like a side story to me since there is no overarching plot and it's not as heavy as before, like a breather. But it really just feels off to me. Would've enjoyed it more if it was better executed rather than feeling like i've been stuck on a subplot for ages.
