Like, I like me a good comfy read, but sometimes I need something that delves deeper into darker themes-- especially when it comes to horror or monsters.
And this mangaka is one of the ones I'd trust to pull it off lol
Wish I could thumbs you up twice. I picked up this series because it was the first time in a while I saw a vampire that acted like...well, a vampire; a mythical monster, instead of a casanova with fangs.
People tend to forget that vampires were originally written and depicted as demonic creatures who fed on and raped innocent people in the middle of the night lol
I mean, it's fine to like a more romanticized version where they are just lonely creatures that are often akin to stray cats, but series like this are a much more accurate depiction of what they were originally intended to be.
I just get tired of people griping and bitching when something doesn't fit their woobified fantasy of what a monster is. I love that FANGS *does* have its really cute and funny moments. This series is not that, tho. Even the whole premise was never supposed to be about Shuuya humanizing a monster that feeds on humans through the power of love lol we knew from the jump that Azure was rotten and that there was no redeeming him or absolving him of all his sins.
I just wish people would accept that and either move on to read something else or at least be quiet in the comments if they continue to read.
well… this was indirectly towards me (not me alone obviously) but again my issue is not any of this . it’s off-putting that people don’t let you have nuance on anything and belittle criticism with “you don’t understand the story”
had to clarify because with how you commented under my post, you have a misconception about my opinion. i understood his characterization, and am aware of the type of story this is, and looked forward to a gritty/harsh story. to me there’s literally no problem with the dark triggering content!! my whole issue with this series is how his depth clashes with what makes yuuya special to him. the storytelling is bad and that’s all. nothing to do with the genre, the bad shit azure did, and false expectations

I was mostly speaking on the people who keep shit talking how Azure is characterized when the whole point is for him to be cruel and cold towards human life.
And I don't think you get the story now that I'm remembering lol the concept of a "bride" to Azure is different than what it means to humans. He's not looking for a romantic partner but someone who can give meaning to his life that is out of the norm. It's why he makes the bet of "whoever falls in love first loses", but I don't think he quite understands that forcing people to say "I love you" isn't the same as them coming to their own feelings and expressing it. It's WHY he doesn't immediately kill Shuuya like Wisteria tells him to like the others despite thinking Shuuya is like the others.
There *is* something special about Shuuya, but it isn't in the stereotypical romance way. He's somehow breaking Azure's expectations, but Azure himself doesn't understand why or how 'cause he no longer understands human thought or emotions.

like you just created a false narrative again to suit you ?? we can have differing opinions but to say “u just don’t get the story” when i literally went in depth and explained i fully understand the characterization of azure and what is motive is. HOWEVER, my issue is- what makes shuuya different from the others doesn’t feel all that special. it doesn’t have to be a stereotypical romance way!! and i keep saying that!! again my issue is that he didn’t break azures expectations the night he was captured. no one has provided an answer to my only question: what makes shuuya special specifically- not glossing it over and saying he’s breaking expectations. killing the girl from the orphanage doesn’t count, im talking about what drove azure to be protective and possessive at first. this is fr the only thing im not satisfied with

This wasn't meant to be a romantic, lovey-dovey "mortal man changes the heart of a cold, immortal vampire" series.
It's dark. It's tragic. It's meant to make you hurt. This isn't going to have a happy ending-- much like this mangaka's other works where the endings are dubiously "happy" at best.
Azure is meant to be a cruel, melancholic immortal being that is only trying to satisfy his own needs. He's twisted from centuries of living a meaningless and boring life. Tbh this is a lot more accurate to what immortality can do to a living being. It's not pretty and it isn't meant to be. It's why a lot of vampire series have the vampires trying to find some way to die or find a reason to keep living.
People reading this and getting upset that Shuuya isn't magically turning Azure more humane can't truly grasp what this series is trying to tell. An immortal apex predator isn't going to be soft and fluffy. You can certainly write them that way if you want, but I find series like this and FANGS ((a vampire series that deals with a lot of heavy emotional themes like vampire suicide and derangement)) more refreshing 'cause it paints a more accurate picture of what immortality does to people.
It's fine to want something romantic and Beauty and the Beast-esque, just don't get your panties in a twist if not every single vampire story is like that.
