Granted, the younger ones are normally forced to do it by their radical, vampire worshiping parents, but majority of the time they are fanatics themselves lol you see it actively happen in this series where people willingly give themselves up to Azure.
Vampires are apex predators, tho, so sometimes they go for the more reluctant prey to satiate their desire to hunt. It's like how cats can sustain themselves on cat food but still desire to hunt small animals and insects. It's in their DNA lol
they treat their “meals” like shit. even humans have developed more humane ways of handling livestock, why can’t vampires do the same?
well fed, healthy, and enriched livestock generally have better meat. i assume the same is for people. it’s dumb that these vampires give their meals pisspoor living conditions because that definitely impacts their blood quality. fear, anxiety, stress, etc all impact quality of life. cortisol levels, dopamine levels, serotonin levels, etc are in the bloodstream and i assume vampires can taste it. keeping their “livestock” healthy and happy would probably make vampires less “big bad evil” and more “yeah they’re just weirdos, but they treat their meals good”
But they are treated well lol
Azure rewards the people who give their lives to him and we see that during the one scene he gouges that one servant during an event. They are fed well and given material wealth for their servitude.
I also don't think that if you've got your mind set against being fed to a vampire that any sort of "comfortable living" will change your mind lol like, there's a reason why most of them are either complete fanatics or nearly comatose. You don't have to brainwash and manipulate a willing victim. For those less willing you have to treat them differently.
And tbh as much as you love to try and make it seem like there are millions of people willing to give their lives to a vampire, I don't think this is true lol humans value their own lives more than others. It's very rare that you come across someone who would genuinely give their life for another 'cause the fear of death looms over us. It's human nature to be afraid of the unknown.
Therefore, it isn't so far-fetched that vampires would have to resort to creating human livestock in order to eat properly. I think you're trying too hard to rationalize this shit when at the end of the day vampires are cruel, twisted individuals who have been rotted away from centuries of living. It's *why* a lot of series emphasize not wanting to turn their human lovers into the same thing they are. Immortal beings know how fucked it can be to be forced to live with a curse and no means of salvation.
Think outside the box a lil bit instead of trying to humanize something that hasn't been human in over a thousand years.
