But if its under rebellion, is marrying into a family that is rebelling just defeats the purpose cus now they got power?
In falala-land you'll just have to go:
1. eradicating the "rebelling" family would destabilize the empire (maybe put other families back in line, but this is not that genre)
2. reverse-uno-carding said family by going "not your neck BUT your treasure and to seal this no shake hand but MARRIAGE"
3. no more "rebelling" now, we're family, no? See how easy that was (whilst said rebelling family is still scratching their collective heads what the hell and when the hell they even rebelled in the first place)
tbh in your own fantasy land you can make whatever passes your fancy ^^
(and if that means that your protagonist goes "welp, we've reached the southern end of the empires map, it's either remote (slightly more south) island or dismissal" then that's whats on the menu ^^)
