Based on what I could understand, the could not just intervene rashly due to the abuse as the previous Earl could spin it around against Iora. There is also the fact Wellmy already put her plan into action by placing people around Iora who could potentially help her escape the situation. Wellmy is not thinking for her own benefits and is self sacrificing and she could deny involvement as the report was being sent anonymously. The crown prince could not just do whatever since he was in disguise at the academy.
Other pov though, Aides was not also directly involved until he was needed to temporarily engaged to Iora so the latter could finally get out of the house.
Dad also is powerless because of his status as a commoner
Weird situation but hope this helps
I get that the plan was solid, but my issue is that they left her alone when they could have at least offered emotional support. It’s not like they could have swooped in and fixed everything, but they could have at least let her know she wasn’t alone and that she wouldn’t have to take the fall with her family
Truly, I get you. At least they have gone about it this way, but there is a circumstance that they could not. They hands are tied (sister, dad and crown prince) and have no way of contact (Aides).
I can also see why the sister didn't want to let her know as in an abusive situation, you'll do everything to protect the other person even if it means you get the full load of it. It's more of the feeling of being trapped and unable to trust anyone. It could be also said that Wellmy does not completely trust Iora to save her as she being hypervigilant about protecting her and letting herself be hated.
It's a complex situation. I'm just glad they made it out if it.
It was a decent story overall, but I kind of disliked how Wellmy was built up as a stoic loner mastermind only to have the wind taken out of the sails when it was revealed that everyone around her knew everything the whole time and just let her struggle alone because reasons.
Everyone basically celebrates how smart and amazing she was for putting on an act and spinning so many schemes for so long, but they could have actually stepped in to help her before everything came to light.
I just thought it was weird how all these people who claim to care for, respect, and support her let her think she was alone and despised for so long when it really wasn’t necessary. She legitimately believed she was completely alone and thought she would be convicted at worst, or thrown penniless onto the streets at best
