To be fair he was ready to die for his country since the prince was already rejecting their proposal and told them it's easy for him to invade them and take everything so he took the highest measures to ensure that if things go down it would be for a "valid" reason then to be invaded without a fight
I think that alchemist was still let off a bit too easy, he was about to kill a bunch of people...there's no way there wouldn't have been casualties (￣∇￣")
