I have read book one years ago and let me tell you, a lot of shit will go down in a few chapter from here. max will stay in the monastry but misses riftan so much that she decides to visit him on the battle field, and she will use her magic power to safe a whole city, almost dying in the process. She ends up surviving but at the loss of her first child. yes, she is/was preggo but no one knew she was until the doctors had to take care of her. riftan is in shambles because he lost his first child and almost lost his wife. he thinks of himself as irresponsible and thought it would be better for her safety if she were to live with her father again and thus get divorced. he after leaving her with her dad at croyso castle, the contact discreased suddenly and riftan goes to croyso castle to check out the situation, when he finds the duke beating his daughter. thats when he finds out that max never grew up spoiled and sheltered like everyone always said but instead abused (riftan has been insecure about his ability to be good husband to maxi because in his pov she always had everything and he always tried to give her all luxuries because he didnt wanted to lack, plus the difference in rank he had with the duke + his “lowly” background) and riftan goes berserk in fury, almost killing the duke. he takes maxi back to anatol, meanwhile the duke wants to drag riftan to court because someone of his rank dared to go against a duke. it ends with riftan and maxi seperating to not get punished by law, and maxi will go to a wizard school to learn magic (where ruth went). they will re-unite in book 2 but i couldnt read that far ahead. hope this helps!

Oh my gosh, thank you very much for telling me I think after this at least good things will happen in the future. It turns out there will be more obstacles in the future.
i gotchu girl <3 heard in other spoilers that maxi will gain confidence and we’ll get funnier and sassier scenarios in the following books, so im really looking forward for this series
as far as i remember, riftan never thought getting a divorce would be better, he just sent her back to the capital earlier so that she could be safe and so he could have more time to think things over. it was maxi’s father who poisoned her mind into thinking riftan would want to get a divorce since miscarriages are said to be a sign of a woman’s failure to fulfill their duty, because of this, the duke told maxi to go back to croyso to avoid the embarrassment brought upon their family if she were to be divorced. maxi with all her insecurities believed this and thought it would be for the better than having the love of her life divorce her because of her believed failure as a woman. but riftan never planned on divorcing her, so he went to croyso castle to get maxi back but the duke confined her and wouldnt let them see each other. riftan wouldnt leave without seeing maxi so he broke into the castle with the help of maxi’s sister and thats when he witnessed firsthand the duke abusing maxi. it was a very painful scene to read and i still cry whenever i reread this scene huhuhu.
ahh youre right !! i dont remember some details, thanks for refreshing my memory. riftan witnessing the abuse was a long awaited scene from fans but i agree it was super painful to read. the author is seriously so talented

A LOT HAPPENED IN BOOK TWO. SO MANY BACK AND FORTH. SO FRUSTRATING READING IT BUT IT DID END HAPPILY EVER AFTER. And they did have another child (I think?). Maxi got a whole lot confident after wizard school and she became really powerful to the point that riftan did allow her to join him in his quest and even gave her a sword and an armor. It did take a lot of chapters for this to happen and the pacing was so slow but it really was worth it to read and I cried every few chapters
