I agree. I wanted Yuiji to become Yamato's straight wing-man. Wouldve preferred a story about their friendship, Yamoto coming out of the closet, and Yuiji figuring out what he wants in a relationship.

They're friends, and they deeply treasure each other. I think that's enough reason. I mean, just because one is gay and the other is a guy, does not mean they're going to end up as lovers. Just like "opposite sex can't be friends" (classic).

(As much as there is a chance of Yamato falling for Yuiji, I can't see them end up as lovers. Both of them treasure their friendship -- that's not so distant or not so close but straight-forward. Although I kinda think that Yamato will confess, somehow, knowing Yuiji is... kind and weird. And after that their friendship will remain as normal.)
