So how do you remove it then..?
In the simplest terms: there is a bubble inside main character now to keep the catheter inside. He needs to find the special valve somewhere on the line (outside of his body) and spin it. The bubble will shrink and it’s safe to remove.

I was quite conserned
They usually have a tiny balloon towards the end of the tube. You have to deflate that first, then pull it out.

Is the bubble meant to prevent the catheter from falling out? In the normal sense of the usage.
