Most people die yes, the mother and sister live, the king and queen of the human and elf kingdom die, and most of the mercenary group except for like 1 or 2 .Tess is neither dead or alive she has some one else inhibiting her body. However this may change later I haven't been up to date with the novel.

No, however last I left off she became comatose and had to revert to a egg? like form as she used all her energy to help Arthur from dying in a later fight that o won't get into further detail as that's when the story takes a major turn.
I read somewhere that apparently in the novel all of his family ultimately dies and Tess later on too. Is this true? I need to know so I can prepare my heart for that.
