Lucille/Estelle is just a complex character. Revenge is essentially suicide ideation, there’s no such thing as being normal afterwards for after revenge is done. Lucille realized that she was given a second chance, and has something to live for than have revenge consume her. But also realize her naivety and ignorance when she was Estelle. Her comrades and even Khalid were wrong for hiding the truth from her because of her class. She was a commoner, the scrape goat, for Ersha- to be ridiculed even after death. She was made to be a fool because of them, because they wanted her to be on a pedestal. Honestly, maybe Khalid was right for killing her, as it is a political play (his family was killed and Estelle was the Symbol of Ersha) - but the way he never commemorated her, and demean her is the true betrayal. Which is why she chose Zed, he has an unconditional love towards her and he never looked down on Estelle. Her not seeking revenge was really for HER happiness and her will to live on. She is not on a suicide mission as she reminded her comrades, to begin a new life. Honestly this is a good story, and a story about the blind devotion people have to their “country” and the blind eye they turn to the cruel actions that occurs. However this is the cruel nature that’s is not in high society and a commoner like her when she was just a tool. I enjoy how complex these characters like Lucille who has this constant inner turmoil, Zed with the expectations but also moral and values, Khalid becoming a traitor of a country that sought out to kill his bloodline but someone who is uttterly selfish as he gained power over killing Estelle.
